Kimberley and her work at Terre des Hommes

Kimberley oversees our global research portfolio; ensuring that all the interesting research that we do with children, caregivers, parents and other adults is coordinated and works towards creating systemic change. We want to know more about children’s lives so that we can help them better. In particular, we want to ensure that all children are included and have their voices heard.

Ever since I was young, I have been curious about children and families affected by events outside of their control (war, natural disasters, poverty etc.).

This led to an interest in trauma and traumatic stress reactions, particularly for women and children involved in conflict. My PhD focused on the psycho-social impact of conflict-related sexual violence and the relationships between mothers and children conceived in this type of violence. Child protection is central for these vulnerable children, but I didn’t feel that working in traditional academic settings would bring me close enough to supporting them. Working for TdH NL is my dream role; combining my deep love for research and ensuring that everything I do feeds back directly to supporting children and families.
