Head of the Humanitarian Action Program

Every child deserves a future, and every crisis demands our unwavering commitment to their survival and well-being

Demelash and his work at Terre des Hommes

Working for a child rights organization dedicated to the fight against child exploitation is something I am deeply proud of. Supporting children is not just about protecting them or giving them hope – it is about creating a better future for all of humanity.

As the Head of Programme for Humanitarian Action, I ensure that children in vulnerable situations receive the support they need, from Afghanistan to Ethiopia, from Nigeria to Palestine, Ukraine, and Syria. Wherever we operate, our mission remains the same: to protect children by preventing and stopping child exploitation and empowering them to make their voices heard.

With over 15 years of experience in humanitarian action, I am dedicated to protecting and empowering children and communities affected by humanitarian emergencies. My journey in this field began in 2010 when I joined a humanitarian organization to respond to one of the worst droughts in East Africa. Witnessing the devastating impact on children – malnutrition, lack of food, water, shelter, and healthcare – was a turning point that deepened my commitment to humanitarian work.

Since then, I have worked tirelessly to ensure that children and communities facing humanitarian emergencies receive the support they need to survive and thrive. Through program design, advocacy, and direct response efforts, I strive to create a world where no child and communities are left behind in times of need.
