Terre des Hommes Netherlands focuses on 3 Thematic Programmes: (online) Sexual Exploitation of Children (SEC), Child Labour, Child Trafficking and on Child Protection in Humanitarian Crisis. For each of these forms of child exploitation, we are developing and implementing projects and programmes through local partners, mainly in Asia and Africa.
About the role
As a Communications Assistant (Media and External Communications), you will support media relations, event communications, and external visibility initiatives to promote the organisation’s advocacy and project results.

Primary responsibilities:
- Draft press releases, media advisories, and feature stories to highlight programme milestones and advocacy efforts.
- Coordinate with journalists and media outlets to facilitate coverage and external engagement.
- Support event preparation by developing communication materials such as agendas, presentations, and documentation kits.
- Track media coverage and compile visibility reports.
- Assist in implementing strategies to boost the organisation’s public image and policy influence.
The consultant will report to the Project Coordinator (OCSE), and coordinate regularly with the Programme Team and Communications Team.
Expected Deliverables
The consultant is expected to deliver the following:
- Approved press releases, feature articles, and external communication pieces.
- Visibility materials and communications outputs for key events.
- Monthly media engagement and coverage reports.
- Database of media contacts and outreach records.
Requirements
The ideal candidate has proven experience in writing press releases, features, and event documentation, with a strong interest in child protection.
More specifically:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field (Fresh graduates are welcome to apply)
- Understanding of media operations and experience engaging journalists or media partners
- Familiarity with communication strategy implementation and tracking media coverage
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; local language proficiency is an asset
- Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines under minimal supervision
- Willingness to adhere to TdH NL’s Safeguarding, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest policies.
Position Details
This position offers a full-time workload of 40 hours per week. We embrace a flexible schedule and a remote-based work model, with the expectation of in-person availability for press events or coordination meetings as required.
Your deliverables will be aligned with the approved work plan and monthly media engagement plan, ensuring your efforts directly contribute to our strategic goals. The contract is set to conclude on December 31, 2025.
Interested consultants are invited to submit a detailed financial proposal, including consultancy fees excluding/including VAT, travel expenses, and any other relevant costs.
