Children Take the Lead: Powerful Stop-Motion Videos Expose Online Dangers

Young change agents in Cambodia are leading a compelling campaign, “A Safe Online Space for All”, as part of the Safety of Children and their Rights OnLine (SCROL) Programme. At the heart of this campaign, the children have created two impactful stop-motion videos that highlight the dangers of the online world and how online child sexual exploitation can be just a click away.
Memories: Empowering Girls to Speak Out
“Memories” is a powerful animation created by the Girls’ Leadership Council in collaboration with Donta Studios, Safe Space Battambang, AusCam Freedom Project, and Terre des Hommes Netherlands in Asia, with Cambodian social media influencer Pidor Ham as an active voice of the campaign.

This inspiring video, produced as part of the “A Safe Online Space for All” campaign, highlights the importance of online safety and is specifically designed to encourage children and youth, particularly girls, to speak out and share their online challenges with their families.
Unhealthy Relationship: Confronting Digital Threats in the Online World
A second stop-motion animation, “Unhealthy Relationship,” was also created by the Girls’ Leadership Council in partnership with Donta animation studios and SafeSpaceBtB. With support from social media influencer Pidor Ham, this animation provides a tool for youth to understand and address online threats, with the goal of creating a safer digital world where every girl feels empowered to seek help and support.

A Shared Mission
“Though the journey of learning feels new and daunting, I embrace the challenge, knowing that my efforts contribute to protecting girls and young women from online child sexual exploitation,” explains one of the video’s creators.
SCROL, or Safety of Children and their Rights OnLine, envisions a world where online sexual exploitation of children does not exist, where children are in charge of their own agency. The program aims to reach 22,100 children in Cambodia, Nepal, and the Philippines in Asia and Kenya in East Africa.
